BLOOMINGTON, IL - The deadline to purchase federal crop insurance is quickly approaching, and COUNTRY Financial representatives are encouraging farmers to meet with their COUNTRY Financial insurance agent and/or crop specialist to make sure spring crops like corn and soybeans, along with farm assets like machinery and property, are properly covered.
COUNTRY Financial offers federal crop insurance and coverages not included with federal crop insurance to provide additional protection for crops, as well as insurance coverages for farm equipment, livestock and buildings. New in 2025, COUNTRY is expanding its offerings for Wind and Extra Harvest Expense (EHE) products for corn to offer earlier season protection beginning at corn seedling emergence. Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin farmers can add Wind and EHE options to provide later season coverage through December 10. “Crop insurance purchasers have until March 15 to let their agent know what coverage and options they want to purchase for that crop year. Farmers should take the time to review their coverages, identify any gaps and needs for additional coverages,” said Brenda Dozier, Senior Crop Underwriting Trainer at COUNTRY Financial.
Also new in 2025 is the announcement by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation to increase the subsidy to 65% for the Enhanced Coverage Option (ECO). Dozier says, “ECO can be added to the farmer’s existing Multi Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) to give them an added layer of coverage. MPCI coverage is based on the farmer’s individual operation. ECO coverage is based on county level crop production and begins to pay when county average yield or revenue falls below 95% (if that is the trigger level they elect.) With any type of crop insurance, the cost is a key factor. The government now pays 65% of the cost for ECO, so talk with your crop insurance agent to get an ECO premium quote.”
